3 Dead, 15 Injured in New Mexico Shooting, Three Suspects Arrested

Authorities in the state of New Mexico in the United States announced on Sunday (March 23) that the police have arrested a 20-year-old man and two teenagers suspected of being involved in a shooting incident at a park in Las Cruces last Friday night, which resulted in the deaths of 3 people and injuries to 15 others.

According to a statement released by the city of Las Cruces on Sunday, the police detained 20-year-old Tomas Rivas and a 17-year-old male on Saturday night, and arrested another 17-year-old male on Sunday morning. The statement mentioned that each of them could face charges of murder, among other pending charges.

The police reported that around 10 p.m. last Friday, a shooting incident occurred at Young Park, where approximately 200 people had gathered for an unauthorized car show, leading to a dispute between the parties involved. Nine males and six females sustained gunshot wounds and received treatment on-site or were transported to hospitals, with the ages of the victims ranging from 16 to 36.

As per the city government’s statement, three individuals lost their lives in the shooting incident, aged 16, 18, and 19 respectively.

As the investigation continues, authorities are searching for park footage and following up on leads provided by eyewitnesses.

Officials mentioned that from Sunday to Tuesday, the police, fire department, and community organizations will be offering support to the victims and their families at the Las Cruces Convention Center.

Fire Chief Michael Daniels stated that 11 victims were taken to three hospitals or a local trauma center. As of Saturday, seven victims remained at the trauma center, four had been treated and discharged, while the condition of four other victims was still unknown.
