25-year-old woman in Nanchang is pregnant with 9 babies, none survive, husband speaks out.

A 25-year-old woman in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, was pregnant with 9 embryos, but due to concerns about the health of the fetuses, she underwent two reduction surgeries and ultimately only two embryos were left. However, even these two embryos could not be saved. Her husband suspects legal responsibility on the part of the hospital involved.

The woman, Ms. Hou, posted on January 7th that the neck transmittance (NT) examination was normal, but she got infected with a loose cervix, causing her water to break. She said, “The doctor said the infection was severe, the risk was high, and they could only save one and abandon the other. It’s all dark in front of me. After trying so hard for so long, we still couldn’t save them.”

Before this, Ms. Hou went to the hospital for an examination after not getting pregnant for nearly a year of marriage. The doctor informed her of fertility difficulties and suggested injections to stimulate ovulation.

In early October 2024, Ms. Hou received ovulation stimulation drugs. By the end of October 2024, she successfully became pregnant. On November 12, 2024, a hospital examination revealed that there were nine gestational sacs in Ms. Hou’s uterus.

Upon learning that Ms. Hou was carrying 9 fetuses, her husband, Mr. Hu, was overjoyed and shared the news on social media, sparking discussions. Many internet users sent blessings to Ms. Hou upon reading the reports.

On November 14, last year, Mr. Hu voiced concern for his wife’s health and the economic cost of raising so many children, thus deciding on reduction surgery. On November 26, Mr. Hu announced that two reduction surgeries had been completed, with two fetal heartbeats still present, hoping for a safe birth for the children.

According to a report by the Nanchang Evening News on January 7, Mr. Hu revealed that even after multiple reduction procedures, the remaining two embryos in Ms. Hu’s abdomen could not be saved.

Mr. Hu stated that the cervix of Ms. Hou had shortened, and the amniotic fluid of one fetus had broken, causing infection. The doctor stated that the other fetus would also be infected, and if the two fetuses were not removed from the abdomen, it would seriously threaten Ms. Hou’s safety.

Ms. Hou is currently hospitalized, and doctors will finalize the surgery plan to remove the fetuses from her abdomen.

Mr. Hu is deeply saddened by the loss of the fetuses. However, he stated that in the current situation, the priority is to save the mother. He expressed concerns that if drastic measures weren’t taken, Ms. Hou might face the possibility of having her uterus removed, which would prevent future pregnancies.

Mr. Hu mentioned that his wife had undergone two reduction surgeries, along with the hospitalization costs, amounting to nearly 70,000 RMB. He never expected to face the tragic loss of their children and the life-threatening situation of his wife.

After consulting a lawyer, he believes that the medical staff did not clearly inform them of the risks of multiple pregnancies before administering the ovulation injection. Therefore, they are considering legal actions against the hospital.
