Recently, the news of a Chinese student who went missing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for over two weeks has sparked concern. The student graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing with a bachelor’s degree. His bank card transaction records have been stagnant since February 22.
On social media, netizens posted missing person notices, stating that the 23-year-old male student, Luo Shengmen, had been missing in Amsterdam for several days. He graduated from the philosophy department at Tsinghua University and started pursuing a master’s degree in logic and language computation at the Amsterdam Institute for Logic, Language, and Computation in August 2024. On the night of February 23, a classmate saw him near his apartment at a supermarket, but he has been unreachable since then.
A notice from the school authorities was also circulated by netizens. The notice mentioned that despite attempts to contact Luo Shengmen via phone and email, the school received no response. The police have initiated an investigation and will gather clues at the school.
According to a March 11 report by Red Star News, a classmate of Luo Shengmen in Amsterdam stated that there has been no significant progress in the case. The classmate confirmed that the aforementioned notice was sent to students by the school.
The report mentioned that on March 5, a domestic classmate of the missing student, Luo Shengmen, who graduated from Tsinghua University, stated that there were no unusual circumstances during their last contact on February 23.
On March 11, a family member of Luo Shengmen indicated that he had been missing since February 23, with no apparent developments in the case. While some claim to have seen him at the supermarket that night, no relevant surveillance footage has been found. His mother’s last contact with him was also on February 23.
Currently, the local police in Amsterdam are involved in the case, but progress has been minimal. Luo Shengmen’s phone, passport, and other belongings are in his apartment. The police informed the family that his bank card transaction records have not been updated since February 22.
Luo Shengmen’s mother mentioned that on February 23, he replied to her message saying he was doing homework but did not respond afterward. She said, “Since there were times when he didn’t reply for a day or two, I didn’t worry at first, thinking he might be busy studying. But when there was no reply for several days in a row, I became anxious and tried continuously to reach out. When I couldn’t contact him, I called the embassy.”
On March 5, the staff at the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands stated that they were aware of the situation but could not disclose specific details.
