14th High-ranking Official in Nanjing, Director of People’s Congress, Long Xiang, Falls from Power This Year

Recently, the Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, Long Xiangren, was under investigation, making him the 14th senior official to be investigated this year.

According to the notice issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on the afternoon of April 3, Long Xiang is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation.

At 61 years old, Long Xiang is a local official in Jiangsu, with 29 years of experience in disciplinary inspection work. He has previously held positions such as Deputy Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Director of the Supervision Bureau of Nanjing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Deputy Secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Committee since 2016, and was elected as the Director of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal People’s Congress in January 2018, reaching the rank of deputy ministerial level before his recent downfall.

Long Xiang is the 14th senior official to be investigated and taken down by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection this year. Senior officials under the jurisdiction of the central government are those appointed and dismissed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, mostly high-ranking officials above the deputy ministerial level.

According to a report by the Southern Metropolis Daily, just a week before on March 25, Long Xiang participated in the first session of the “Cadres Learning Lecture Hall” organized by the Nanjing Municipal Committee, marking his last public appearance before his downfall.

In December 2024, Bu Guoxun, the former Deputy Director of the Finance and Economic Committee of the Nanjing Municipal People’s Congress, was investigated.

In May 2024, Luo Qun, the former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal People’s Congress, was investigated.

In January 2024, Li Shigui, the former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal People’s Congress, was investigated.
