13-year-old Indian girl uses her voice to scare off monkey group and save a baby

In Uttar Pradesh, India, a 13-year-old girl recently displayed quick thinking when she found a group of wild monkeys entering her home, posing a potential threat to her 15-month-old niece. She cleverly used a voice-controlled sound device to emit dog barking noises, successfully scaring off the monkeys and saving both her niece and herself. Her courageous act has earned her the title of a female hero.

According to a report by People magazine, the girl named Nikita, residing in Basti district, earlier this month, smartly utilized an Amazon-produced smart speaker Alexa to deter the approaching monkeys.

Nikita told Asian News International that when the incident occurred, some guests had left her front door open, allowing the wild monkeys to invade the kitchen and begin causing a ruckus. She noticed her 15-month-old niece was with her at the time. Despite feeling afraid, she spotted Alexa, which she could control with her voice, and immediately requested it to play dog barking sounds. The monkeys were startled by the barking noises and quickly fled.

Wild monkeys are common in the area and are known for their mischievous behavior.

The baby’s father mentioned that Alexa, specifically the third-generation Echo Dot they own, has been very useful in their home for various reasons. He praised its functionality in controlling lights, fans, air conditioning units with simple voice commands.

He added, “If you use it in everyday life, you’ll understand how useful it is. All the lights, fans, and air conditioning in our house can be operated with just one command.”

Furthermore, Alexa provides them with news updates and can answer questions, making it a versatile household tool.

An Alexa spokesperson stated in a statement provided to People magazine that the incident in Basti district highlights the effective combination of quick thinking and user-friendly technology like Alexa in improving everyday lives. They emphasized that Alexa can easily respond to commands in English, Indic languages, and even play sounds like the dog barking used in this case, showing a commitment to making Alexa more useful.

Amazon launched Alexa in 2014, and so far, communication and responses with Alexa have been limited to a few languages like English, excluding Chinese.
