On November 11th, around 6pm, a BMW car crashed into multiple vehicles and pedestrians on a section of road in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The incident resulted in one fatality and four injuries.
A viral video online shows the BMW car overturned with severe damage, and injured individuals laying on the side of the road.
According to eyewitness accounts reported by the public, the BMW was traveling at a high speed and collided with several electric vehicles traveling straight through the Dinglan Road intersection. Subsequently, it crossed over the curb, crashed through the guardrail, and finally hit an SUV waiting at a red light.
The accident caused multiple injuries, and the driver of the SUV is currently undergoing medical examination in the hospital.
The Traffic Police Detachment of the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau recently issued a report stating that on November 11th, around 6:11 pm, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Danongang Road and Dinglan Road in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City. A small-sized car collided with several motor vehicles, non-motor vehicles, and pedestrians waiting at the intersection. Five people were injured, with one sustaining serious injuries and unfortunately succumbing to them despite rescue efforts.
The driver at fault, a 64-year-old man surnamed Huang, was apprehended. It was confirmed that alcohol or drug intoxication was not a factor for Huang. Preliminary investigation indicated that the accident resulted from Huang mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake while parking.
This case has sparked discussions among netizens.
“Yanyu Jiangnan”: The driver is already 64 years old; I wonder how many years of driving experience he has. Causing one death and four injuries classifies this as a serious traffic accident. Regardless of whether there was malicious intent, it constitutes a violation of criminal law.
Another netizen raised doubts about the police’s statement that the driver “mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.”
“Tilly”: It’s hard to understand not releasing the accelerator. Once the car’s movement doesn’t match my actions, muscle memory would automatically press the brake.
Multiple netizens expressed their agreement: No matter how confused, muscle memory is to press the brake.
In recent months, China has witnessed a series of car accidents involving pedestrians and random knife attacks, causing a sensation in Chinese society.
