【Live】US Senate Holds Hearing on Nomination of Education Secretary Miguel A. Cardona

On the morning of February 13th, in the United States Eastern Time, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee held a confirmation hearing for Linda McMahon as the nominee for Secretary of Education. New Tang Dynasty and Epoch Times conducted live online streaming with instant translation subtitles.

President Trump reiterated on Wednesday his desire to close the Department of Education. McMahon stated during the confirmation hearing on Thursday that she agrees with Trump’s plan to shut down the Department of Education and return education authority to the states, emphasizing that this would require action from Congress.

“President Trump understands that we will work with Congress. We want to get this right. We hope to ensure that our proposed plans receive recognition from the Senate and Congress, which will make the Department of Education operate better, but it will definitely require action from Congress,” McMahon said.

In response to Republican Senator and Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, Bill Cassidy, asking about plans to reduce the size of the Department of Education, McMahon stated, “We completed the plan for the education system long before the establishment of the Department of Education.”

She continued, “Can other departments within the Department of Education better serve local students and parents? I fully support the President’s mission to return education to the states. Like the President, I believe that the best education is closest to the children, certainly not in Washington D.C.”

“If the Department of Education downsizes, will states and localities still receive federal funding as they do now?” Cassidy inquired.

McMahon replied, “Yes, the President’s goal is not to eliminate funding for these programs but to make them operate more effectively.”

Linda McMahon was officially nominated by Trump to serve as Secretary of Education on November 19th last year. Trump praised McMahon as a “superstar” and commended her performance as the head of the Small Business Administration, exceeding expectations.

McMahon became the head of the Small Business Administration in Trump’s first term in 2017, and she began fundraising for Trump’s reelection campaign starting in 2019, laying the groundwork for policies and personnel arrangements in Trump’s second term.

The 76-year-old McMahon’s initial career goal was in education, but she later entered the business world, earning the title of a female genius in the American business world. She then transitioned from the business world to politics, dedicating herself to fundraising for Republican candidates.

One of Trump’s campaign promises was to abolish the Department of Education. If she becomes Secretary of Education, will McMahon be the one to help Trump dissolve the Department of Education?
